Juice fasting is a potent way to detox your body and undergo a deep cleanse, but it isn’t for everybody. The most natural way for everybody to detox is to change our diet. Giving up processed foods, fast foods, meat, dairy, white sugar, white flour, and non-organic grains - then adding in lots of fresh organic greens, vegetables and fruits is the surest way to detox and stay detoxed for life. Detoxing smoothies – not a deep cleanse, but a daily detox method

NOTE: These smoothies ARE NOT meant to perform as intensive juice cleanses. Juice cleanses are different than drinking smoothies. Please do not try to only drink these smoothies instead of eating food, like you would a juice fast. This is not their purpose. Likewise, if you eat a really poor diet and try to “drink it away” with these smoothies, you aren’t going to get very far. These smoothies are meant to be consumed as part of a healthy diet.

5 types of cleanses that are important for overall health

Again, by eating a vegan diet that focuses strongly on whole organic greens, veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains and legumes, you will naturally cleanse your body and detox every major system. Here are the 5 major cleanses that are good for your body’s overall health:

  1. Anti-inflammatory cleanse – to reduce small intestine inflammation and overall acidity in the body
  2. Colon cleanse – to remove build up of waste from the large intestine
  3. Gallbladder/liver cleanse – to flush stones from gallbladder and liver and remove toxin build-up
  4. Parasite cleanse – to remove unwanted parasites from the body (many people have unwanted parasites and don’t even know it)
  5. Heavy metal cleanse – to remove accumulation of heavy metals from the body

In addition to eating cleaner, you can also add detoxing smoothies to your daily diet to specifically target certain systems. Here are 5 different smoothie recipes that I’ve gathered from others over the years. I’ve personally taste-tested each of them, and they are all fabulous!

1. Anti-inflammatory: Strawberry Basil Lime

1 cup organic strawberries
1/2 cup packed organic basil leaves
1 organic lime, peeled
1 cup organic coconut water (or water)
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1/2 cup to 1 cup ice if frozen smoothie is desired (optional)

2. Colon cleanse: cucumber-kiwi-aloe

1/2 organic green apple
1/2 organic cucumber
1 organic kiwi, peeled
3/4 – 1 cup organic coconut water (or water)
1 thumb-sized chunk ginger root (or 1/2 tsp dried)
1/4 cup organic aloe vera juice
1/2 organic lemon or lime, peeled (or 2 T juice)
1 Tbsp. chia seeds

 

3. Liver/gallbladder cleanse: ginger-mint-pineapple

1/4 of an organic pineapple, chopped and skin removed
1 inch fresh ginger root, peeled
1/2 cup organic mint leaves
1/2 cup organic coconut water (or water)

 

4. Parasite cleanse: papaya-pineapple smoothie

1/4 of an organic pineapple (chopped & skin removed) (anti-parasitic)
1/2 of an organic small papaya (peeled, keep seeds) (seeds are anti-parasitic)
1/2 organic mango (for taste)
2 Tbsp. organic coconut oil (anti-parasitic)
2 Tbsp. organic raw pumpkin seeds (anti-parasitic)
1/4 tsp. ground cloves (optional – kills parasite eggs)
1 – 2 cups water  (blend in slowly until get desired consistency)

 

5. Heavy metal cleanse: turmeric milk

2 cups organic almond or hemp milk (avoid dairy and soy milk)
2 organic dates, pitted
1 Tbsp. maple syrup or raw honey
1/2 tsp. ground turmeric
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
drink cold in spring/summer, warm fall/winter
